Hello.

Can I say a feeling "creeps up on" a person and then "envelops" them?

Is this correct and natural English?

He sat in the room. Loneliness crept up on him and entirely enveloped him.

How about:

He was in the room all by himself. Loneliness crept up on him and completely overwhelmed him.

Does envelop not work?

It works for me- others may disagree.
