I intend to write an article about culture shock. In one sentence I want to use the verb "mix" and suggest a foreign student should mix in with other people. Is this correct?


To alleviate the effects of culture shock, a foreign student should try to mix in with the people and other students in the new society. They can join social clubs and make new friends.

I am almost certain that "blend in" , integrate, and assimilate would work.

But I want to use "mix". Doesn't it work in this context at all?

Although the senses of the words are appropriate, I don't think you can't use integrate or assimilate either, with the sentence as it is currently phrased.
