Today, all over the world, many young people in devoloping countries _______ their homes to get a good education at universities abroad.

A)leave
B)are left
C)left
D)have left
E)had left

The answer is B. i know the sentence is present tense but why not A or D,and what is the am/is/are+Past participle?
thanks

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

The correct answer is definitely not B.

Where did you find this question? If it really said B is the answer, it's wrong, plus the question contains incorrect spacing around the punctuation (there should be a space after each comma).

Punctuation mistakes are my carelessness, i wrote the question, didn't copy paste sorry:)
İt's from one of my brother's worksheets, i was looking them and couldn't do it so i wanted to learn.
Now i know it's wrong,thank you :)

You can use "are left" this way:

I ate five cookies and five are left.

Thanks for information. Has this same meaning with 'I ate five cookies and five have left' like present perfect?

No. The word "left" is not used as a verb in that sentence. It (the sentence) means the same as "Five are remaining" or "Five are still there".

Oh,i get it now. Thank you very much.

It is strange that the present continuous tense is not an option here. The sentence refers to a temporary activity which is still in progress.

B) is incorrect. In my opinion, A) is the best answer.
