I'm having trouble distinguishing between an approach road and a side road. Could someone explain the difference?

Thanks.

Hi ems.

Note from mod: Attention all users - this post is from a long-standing user who has unfortunately been locked out of their account and had to start a new one, so they're upping their post count in order to be able to use the forum properly again. Under normal circumstances, a post like this would be deleted so don't go getting any ideas!

Well, here's what I've found online:

approach road
noun
British
A road leading up to a particular place or feature.

side road
noun

A minor or subsidiary road, especially one joining or diverging from a main road.

Source: Lexico Dictionary

Could it be said that an approach road is a side road of some sort?

A side road intersects a main road. (There are millions of them.)

An approach road leads to a certain feature -- for example, the approach road to Old Faithful.

An approach road road is the main access road to a place. A side road, as its name suggests, is a road of secondary importance.
