What is the meaning of "balled out" in the following context:

Kendra is talking about here husband Hank sayin:

"Hank did so good in his first game. He went and balled out on special teams. I'm just so proud of my husband and I'm Hank's number one fan"

Be aware that this is a very uncommon expression. I've never seen or heard it used by a journalist or by a commentator (that's a presenter to you Brits.) Its use seems to be confined to extremely rabid fans.

Huh. I'm a pretty big fan of (American) football, and I've never seen this phrase before.

Me neither. And I'll wager I have watched at least as much football as you.

In addition, I consulted my son-in-law, an academic who is about to have published a book about professional sports, and he had never heard it either.

But if you google it, you'll find lots of examples.
