Can #1 be used instead of #2?

I don't think I'd use the first sentence instead of the second one, but I wonder if native speakers would.

To me, #1 sounds as if someone declares that they didn't repair the computer and then adds as an afterthought that the reason they didn't repair it was that they were told to repair it. But I know that native speaker often use the shortest way to express an idea and I think #1 might be used instead of #2.

The first one would make sense without the comma. "I didn't repair the computer because I was told to" - I did it on my own without being told.

The second one is fine as it is.
