Hello.

What is the difference between "by trade" and "by profession"?

I am a baker by trade.

I am a chief accountantant.

Do we use "by trade" when a blue collar worker is implied and do we employ "by profession" when a white collar worker is inferred?

Thank you.

Basically, yes.

That brings me to the following conclusion: in the case of poorly skilled or unskilled workers, we say "by trade" whereas in the case of highy skilled workers, we say "by profession".

I would say that both terms imply training and skills.
