Which one of these statements is correct?
1. The nation will pay tribute to their heroes.
2. The nation will pay tribute to its heroes.
I know that collective nouns are treated as third person plural nouns so in that context the second statement seems grammatical to me. But still I think the first statement sounds natural. Correct me if I am wrong.
