Chris is such an energetic individual, and I can only imagine the excitement he will feel when he discovers the surprise. Knowing him, he may even be overwhelmed with joy and enthusiasm upon learning about the party plans.

This is a sentence of a letter ChatGPT made for me. My question is about the last sentence of it, which includes a participle clause. Is it not necessary that the subject of both participle clause and the main clause be the same? In this case, the subject of the participle clause is 'I' while that of the main clause is 'he'. Is that a rule or not?
