When you say to someone, "cool your pipes", it means "calm down, don't get angry". I believe it comes from the idea of a motorcycle or car exhaust pipe cooling down when you turn off the motor. Also common is "cool your jets", which has the same meaning and obviously a similar origin.

In Manchester UK you can also hear " pipe-down a bit, will you"?
