In The running dream by Wendelin Van Draanen, author writes about a hand: "The fingers are long and graceful, and they do a little flip upward near the tips. But the overall impression is one of strength; that his hands could move mountains."

Please enlighten me meaning of underlined words.

I'd like to help you, but I can't. I don't know what that means. Is "The Running Dream" a book?

My best guess is the fingers are curved somewhat.

Remember to capitalise book titles correctly and put them in italics (as I did above) or in quotation marks (as Tarheel did in post #2).

It's an odd description but I can only assume that if he placed his hands palm down on a table, his fingertips would be slightly raised away from the table. I would guess that the fingers bend upwards slightly at the first joint.
