Is the following phrase correct?The hungry would receive food for free or if not for free, they definitely pay a much lower prize.

The hungry would receive food for free or, if not for free, they would definitely pay a much lower price.

I certainly say "for free" but some people object to this, and say it's just "free."
You can get it free.
(I would say "You can get it for free.")
 
So if you"re not hungry you pay the regular price. If you are hungry you pay a lower price.

I believe "the hungry" is used the way we use "the poor" or "the disadvantaged."

In that case, I would say receive free food rather than receive food free. I have no objection to for free.
