Hello everyone!

I'm preparing for CAE exam. One of its pecularities is in completing gapped sentences. What one needs to do is to fill in the gaps in all three sentences with just one word. Help me out with these ones, please!

1) The teacher was crearly overwhelmed with the number of students' essays she had to ________________ each day.
2) To _________________ their twentieth anniversary the couple organized a huge party for all their relatives and friends.
3) Susan was furious when her favourite dress returned to her with a big dirty __________________ on the back.

I understand what should be in each of the sentences, but I fail to find the only word for them. It shouldn't be something comlicated if to believe the rules of the exam.

Thank you in advance!

Hello, Marina Gaidar.:-D

May I suggest that you tell us what you think the answers might be?
You will learn more if you do so.

Good luck!

Well, in the first one it would be appropriate to put "check", in the second "celebrate", in the third "spot". I have no idea which one word will unite all those ideas!

Hello, again.:-D

Do you mean you need to put exactly the same word in all those three gaps?

I agree with your choices, by the way.:-D

I'm feeling generous on this sunny Sunday. The word which fits in all three gaps is "mark". ;-)

Yes, unfortunately)

Oh, my! That was really simple!

Would you mind helping me with one more set of such gapped sentences?

If ems is still feeling generous she'll take the exam for you.

I'm afraid that was the extent of my generosity! One bit of long-awaited sunshine on a lazy Sunday made me go a bit crazy! Normal service now resumed.

As an aside, I did think it might be quite difficult for some learners to get #1 because "to mark essays" isn't used in all variants. If someone learns only AmE, they might only know "to grade essays".
