Hi.

I was playing mahjong and about to start a new round but I wanted to use the toilet. I said to my friends "Hold on, nature calls! I've gotta pee".

Is what I said natural?

That works, too.

Also, to be a bit more polite 'Excuse me; nature calls'.

I've never really seen the need for such euphemisms. If I were with friends or at work (or similar), I'd just say "Sorry, just got to go to the loo" or "Back in a mo; I need to pee". If I wanted to be "formal" (for example, if I were waiting to go into a job interview), I might say "Do I have time to go to the toilet?" or similar.

To me it's a textbook example of too much information.

I'd just say, "Hold on, I'll be right back."

I never need to know why anybody else is going to the toilet, so I never tell anybody else why I need to go.

It's nobody's business but me own.;-)

Right. My thought exactly. Let 'em figure it out themselves!

Would anyone else consider a semicolon or dash after hold on?

"Time out. Nature calls".
