He authored “Learn How to Increase your Chances of Winning the Lottery”. In his book, he shared tips on how to win the lottery. It took Richard 20 pain-staking years to develop a winning strategy that increase his chances of winning the lottery. He said that his journey was not an easy one. In fact he lost, many times.

Is it correct to italicise as well enclose the title of the book with inverted commas, as shown in the first sentence of the above paragraph?

Thanks.

I'm not keen on using "author" as a verb. I would say he "wrote" the book.

If he has the secret to winning the lottery, why did he feel the need to sell a book about it instead of winning over and over again?

To maximize profit. Nothing stops you from both winning lotteries and getting paid for writing.
