Today in the gym I asked my friend whether I was late? So he told me I entered the gym ten minutes after it opened.

Please check my sentences.

You need to check the punctuation. What time were you meant to arrive?

Try using 'gym' only once.

Review the first sentence. It's very nearly correct. :)

That's OK. I was thinking of "arrived" rather than entered. But I really meant for you to use my advice in combination with Tdol's advice.

Your friend's answer still doesn't answer your question (with the information you've given).

Was arriving ten minutes after the gym opened early, on time or late? The response does not answer the question.

Not to me.

Late. I should have reached there by 4:50 AM.

Ah, so the gym opened at 4.40 am. and you were on time, right? Four days and eleven posts later, and we still don't know.

Baffling!

What time did the gym open? What time were you supposed to arrive? What time did you arrive? Why did you have to ask someone else if you were late?

I have just joined this gym. My previous gym is under construction that opened at 4:30 AM (and I used to reach there by 4:30) and will remain closed for four months. I didn't know the exact time it opened so when I entered the gym I asked my friend how late I was? So he told me ten minutes.

You didn't answer a single one of my four questions.

Tufguy, is that sentence in the form of a question?

1) It opened at 4:50 AM.

2) I was supposed to be there right at the time it opened.

3) I arrived at 5 AM.

4) I asked my friend whether I was late or not because I didn't know the exact time it opened at. So I asked him "how late was I?".

Finally! We needed quite a lot of that information in post #1.

I was supposed to be at the gym when it opened, at 4.50am. When I arrived, I didn't know what the time was so I asked my friend [there] if I was late. He told me I had arrived at 5am.

Then your friend would say Ten minutes.
