The only one that is an idiom, with meaning on its own, is "short cut."

You need to appreciate that there is a strong implication in those words that you feel that it might well not be true. This would be impolite to anybody who genuinely tried to help you; it is even more so when addressed to a very experienced and highly respected member of the forum who has given thousands of accurate, helpful responses.
