How common is the idiom "like a dog with two tails"? Are these correct and natural?

1. He's been like a dog with two tails ever since he heard Amy is coming over.
2. I was like a dog with two tails when she said she was going to bake a cake for me.
3. He has a huge crush on you. He'll be like a dog with two tails if you text him.

You've used them correctly in those sentences. It's not that common (in BrE, at least) but context would mean that most people would understand what it means.
