Is this correct and natural?

I don't like it here. It's just a vast expanse of barren land. The landscape is less than poetic here.

The landscape is featureless, soulless and uninspiring.

Try:

It's barren land. It's uninteresting.

(Note that "just a" and "vast" don't go together.)

I disagree with Tarheel on that point. For me, "just" means "nothing more than" here.

But a vast expanse would have to be a considerable amount of territory. How do you put "just a" in front of that?

Very easily in BrE.

Bob: Do you like the new Heritage Tower in the middle of town?
Jim: No! It's just an enormous grey monolith!

Helen: Is the national park worth visiting?
Sarah: Not really. It's just a huge expanse of brushland.

Maybe it's another transatlantic difference. BrE would use "just" very readily in such statements. As I said, "just" means "nothing more than" or it's a way of saying "That's all it is. Nothing more interesting than that".
