Which is right? Why?

1. I ride a bus to school.

2. I ride on a bus to school.

My teacher said #2 is correct. However, another teacher said both are correct. I’m confused. Are they used in different countries like the USA and the UK?

In American English, number one is correct and number two is not.
 
I prefer " I take a bus to school".

We don't use "ride a/the bus" in BrE.

I go to school on the bus.
I get the bus to school.
