Is it correct to say "whispers were circling" and"rumors were flying"?

Is this okay?

In the palace, whispers were circling and rumors were flying that the new king is unwell.

In the palace, whispers were circulating that the new king was unwell and rumors were flying that his brother would soon sit on the throne.
