I want to say there is a "slight" quality or a trace of something in someone's eyes / voice. Can I use "touch"?

Are these okay?

1. Jack looked up and gazed into her eyes. There was a touch of melancholy in them.

2. "I'm okay but I wish she were here," she said, a touch of melancholy laced in her voice.

Yes, 'touch' is commonly used as a synonym for 'trace' or 'small amount' in that context.
