Jack stepped into the kitchen. He patted Laura on the back as she stirred the soup on the stove. She stood on her toes, fished out a bowl from inside the cupboard above her and then poured soup in it.

Jack sat at the table, staring at the curls of steam rising from the bowl. "It looks good," he said, blowing a spoon full of soup. He then put the spoon in his mouth. Strangely, the soup had a stale taste. He fought to keep himself from spitting it out.

Laura's eyes searched his face. "How is it?" , she asked.

"It's a culinary delight," Jack responded, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
