Justified use of "lately", ........ the whole sentence

Hello everybody!

Suppose that there is a recap on what happened at the shipyard XYZ in the year 2019. The content of the summary goes beyond the year 2019 and partly enters the beginning of the year 2020.

Below, I present a sentence which, in my opinion, may use the Present Perfect tense.

Lately, the shipyard has seen an increased interest of ship-owners in having repairs carried out, as evidenced by a larger number of queries for projects carried out in the first quarter of the year 2020.

What do you mean by "carried out", and when you say "larger", what are you comparing with? Also, how is your sentence connected with 2019?

The recap on what happened at the shipyard in 2019 tells about the past. Ship-owners may have been less interested in repairs or fewer ship-owners may have been interested in them in 2019. Now the year is 2020 and the situation has changed.

Lately, the shipyard has seen [STRIKE]an[/STRIKE] increased interest [STRIKE]of[/STRIKE] from ship-owners [STRIKE]in having[/STRIKE] to have repairs carried out, as evidenced by [STRIKE]a larger[/STRIKE] the large number of queries for projects to be carried out in the first quarter of (the year) 2020.

Try that. You can optionally leave out "the year".
