Knowing this I went there or despite knowing this I went there.

which expression is correct to mean that I knew this beforehand still I went there? Is there any difference between the two sentences?

Big difference. What is the context?

I knew that the market was closed still I went there. This is the context.

Usually we use "knowing" for something positive or at least neutral. We usually use "despite knowing" for negatives. I guess, knowing that market was closed was a negative, so I would use "despite knowing".
