Hi,

Could anyone please help me understand the meaning of "major portion thereof" in the sentence below?

Your employees are allowed 15-minutes rest for evey four hour worked or major portion thereof.

Thank you.

The sentence means Your employees are allowed 15-minutes' rest for every four hours, or major portion of four hours, that they have worked.

So working almost four hours earns a fifteen-minute break.

That has to be the most vague rule ever. At two hours and one minute, they have worked "a major portion" of four hours.

It's also an ugly sentence, but, at least, you should be able to get extra breaks by exploiting the rule.
