I am looking for resources/stuff to read and enhance my own understanding on a second language gets acquired and specifically in relation to acquisition as second language over a primary mother tongue language. I am interested in grammar and pronunciation emanates from the fact that those two are broadly considered as the fundamental pillars of any language communication, I may be wrong though and would be happy to be corrected.

Note my corrections above. I don't understand the last part of your opening sentence at all. A second language is a language acquired over one's mother tongue. You make it sound as if sometimes it's something else.

I see. In that case, I suggest you start by reading some introductory books on the subject:

Introducing Second Language Acquisition by Muriel Saville-Troike
How Languages Are Learned by Nina Spada

These books will give you a solid grounding in the subject before you go on to further reading.
