What's the nuance between "over time" and "over the course of time"? Can I replace "over the course of time" with "over time" in the following sentence?

We hoped that the problems in their relationship would resolve over the course of time. (Dictionary)

I don't think there's any real nuance. The version with 'course' perhaps sounds a bit more literary or poetic.
