“School is shortened, discipline relaxed, philosophies, histories, languages dropped, English and spelling gradually gradually neglected, finally almost completely ignored. Life is immediate, the job counts, pleasure lies all about after work.”

Welcome to the forum, lovelyv.

Please give your threads more meaningful titles, such as “School is shortened, discipline relaxed"

This is a quote from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (if you knew that, you should have given the source of the text).

Read more here.

As it says later: 'Sounds like the perfect society'.

Lovelyv20, please note that the first rule of ESL Forum is we don't do your homework for you. Not to be too harsh, but you list English as your first language, and your question isn't inquiring about grammar or parts of speech...... :turn-l: Assignments such as this often seem goofy and can be boring, but they do serve a purpose - they teach you to utilize critical thought. Read the passage - what is the author describing? And then consider what it would be like to live in a place where fun and immediate gratification would have priority over education. Think about the future - 30 years from that time, if no one was learning or being educated, who would be the doctors or lawyers or even plumbers?
