Kindly check my precis.

original passage

Boredom as a factor in human behaviour has recieved far less attention than it deserves.
it has been one of great motives powers throughout the historical epoch, and is so at the present day more than ever. Boredom would seem to be a distinctively human emotion. Animals in captivity, it is true, become uneasy, pace up and down, and yawn, but in a state of nature, probably, they hardly experience anything like boredom. One of boredom essentials consist in the contrast between present circumstances and some other more agreeable circumstances which force themselves irresistibly upon the imagination.it is one of essentials of boredom that one's faculties must not fully occupied. Running away from enemies who is trying to make one's life may be unpleasant.it is certainly not boring. Boredom is certainly a frustrated desire for events, not necessarily pleasant ones. but just occurrence such as will enable the victim of boredom to know one day from another. the opposite of boredom, in a word, is not pleasant but excitement.

Precis

Boredom has been one of powerful apparatus of human behaviour. it is human psychology to get bore. contrary to this, animals do not feel such unhappiness. Human mind which does not occupied with thoughts often less excited. Human beings want to get thrill and excitement either it may be pleasant or harmful. man's motive is excitement in life to get rid of boredom not pleasure.

Where did you come across the "original?" It's not natural at all.

It is in past paper of PMS Punjab 1991

Hi everyone,
would you people like to check my precis? i will be grateful.
looking forward for your reply.

Perhaps:

It (boredom) has been one of the great motivations of human behavior throughout history.

Well, the first sentence is OK, but the rest is a mess. The summary is no better.

Say:

Running away from an enemy that is trying to kill you may be unpleasant, but it is definitely not boring.

Fourth sentence. Perhaps:

Animals in captivity, it is true, pace back and forth, and yawn, but it is unlikely that in the wild they ever experience anything like boredom.

Try:

Boredom results from a lack of stimulation. Mammals need stimulation.

I think you should come up with the rest on your own. Express your own thoughts.

Loads of thanks.

You need to rewrite your precis`. Use the suggestions, and start over. As it is it is no better than the original. (In the original sentences one and three are the only ones that don't need to be changed.) Start over!

Boredom

A better thread title.

Thanks for your reply. Would you like to tell me that which tense should be used in precis writing? I mean I red somewhere that Precis should be in indirect form. if we make precis in indirect form, do we have to change the tense according to rule of " Direct and Indirect speech"" such as we will change "simple past tense into past perfect" etc? if yes, tell me which tense I use when the original passage is in " Present indefinite tense" ? I'll be thankful if you guide me in this regard.

Use past tense. Use indirect speech. Use reported speech. Strive for brevity and clarity. Clarity above all! And use your own words.

(It is not me saying that. It's what I found on the Internet.)

Also, a precis' should be one third the length of the original. (The word "precis" comes from a French word meaning "summary". )

Note the wording of the first sentence in the previous post. A couple of people on another thread said you shouldn't start a sentence with "also". Naturally, I had to do that the first chance I got.

Google "tips for writing a precis" and you should find some useful advice.
