Greetings,

I hope everybody is doing good here and enjoying great health.

Today I checked my English language skills using the EFSET test. I am quite disappointed with the results https://www.efset.org/cert/cSeMgw here. British Council rated my skills with C1 in IELTS in 2017. However, it looks like I am still around the same level after 5 years. My cumulative IELTS score was 7.0. I received 7.5 in writing and listen, whereas 6.5 in both speaking and reading.

The EFSET test shows my reading skills still lie somewhere between 6.5-7.5 band, but the listening has improved up to 8.0. I would appreciate if teachers and contributors here could point me in the right direction to improve my linguistic skills. I am considering to following the book Destination C1 & C2 by Malcolm Mann to further grasp the language. The intention is to write high calibre of PhD level research papers in the next six months.

Thank you very much.

If I were you I might say I was trying to reach the next level. (I only saw one error in your text. (Maybe two.))

@iambozdar For starters, say:

I hope everybody is doing well ...

At one point you referred to "writing and listen" but every other place you got it right.

I'm not sure what you mean by "considering to follow". Does that mean you're thinking about studying that book?

Try:

The intention is to write high calibre PhD research papers in the next six months.

Or:

The intention is to write some excellent PhD research papers in the next six months.

Say:

I am considering studying that book.

Or:

I am thinking about studying that book.

But not:

I am considering to studying that book.

Please don't ask me why. (I'll have to change extra for that. 😊)

The "why" questions are always the hardest. The "what" questions are easy by comparison.
