I want to describe the way my wife sometimes looks at me. She has this look on her face like she is a kindergarten girl and she wants to whine like she wants ice cream!

Can I use the word "grumpy"? Isn't it just for older people?

What do you think about this?

She looked at me like a grumpy, needy kindergarten girl.

Is there a better choice? How can I make it better?

For me, there are too many mixed messages. You're saying that, all at the same time, she manages to look like she's in a bad mood, like she's very needy but also that she resembles a three-year-old.

Welcome to my life! My wife continues to perplex me every day!:-D

But seriously, can't a mature woman be needy and grumpy and sound like a kindergarten girl sometimes?

How can I fix the sentence? Is "grumpy" usable in that situation or not?

To me, it's fine as originally written. I can see her.

Yes, children can be grumpy. Anyone can be grumpy.

There's a movie called Grumpy Old Men. If grumpy implied old, they would have just called it Grumpy Men.
