a) She was rich and built a fine house.
b) She was rich, therefore she built a fine house.

If she was rich and she built a fine house then, by definition, a) is OK.

b) is another kettle of fish. Was the building of a fine house the inevitable outcome of being rich, or do you mean that the house she built was fine because she was rich?
