Hi,

What does the short mean in this sentence?

The boss was very short with his secretary.

Thanks a lot,

This is the number five definition:

brief or concise, as writing.

And accordingly, the sentence should be "The boss was very brief/concise with his secretary.

But isn't it awkward to say someone is concise with somebody?

Did you read 6, as suggested by charliedeut?

I did. When I first looked "short" up in the dictionary before here, I guess it might mean the definition six, but I wasn't sure.

And according to Cha's suggestion, he mentioned "short" was open to two definitions, and I guess the fixth one doesn't work, so I just want to make certain.

So, the answer is the sixth one, right?
