Could you explain what the phrase "down throat" means? The context is a football commentary.

It means the goalkeeper has an easy save to make as the ball comes straight to him at head height.

Thank you. But I'm wondering what "throat" actually means in this context? The word "down" is usually used for a movement. For example: Rashford and Harry Kane combine to break down the right. Does it also show a movement in the above?
 
It's not meant to be taken literally. It was such an easy save that it was as if he'd opened his mouth and the ball went straight down his throat. It basically was fired straight at him so he caught it without much effort.

Yes, it means the ball travelled directly towards the goalkeeper.
