Students' Motivation

I have been teaching English for at least fifteen years, and I enjoy yet. My biggest problem so far is my students' lack of motivation. I've tried all I know, and I'm looking for new things. Do you have any suggestions?

Why do they lack motivation? Is it a required course?

To increase their motivation you could pay them. (That would have worked for me.)

We're going to need a lot more information if we're going to help you.

Have all your students, across the whole fifteen years, been unmotivated?
What age are your students?
What level are your students?
How many students do you teach at one time?
Do you teach at a school or privately?
Most importantly, what motivation techniques have you tried?

Isn't this most teachers' biggest problem?

There are two ways to go:

1) Try and motivate them.
2) Accept that they're unmotivated and do the best you can despite that.

I presume you're talking about 1, in which case you need to ask and answer the question 'What motivates them?' Do you have any idea about this? If you want to tell us what you know, perhaps we can help more usefully.

Remember that there is a ton of literature, workshops, blogs, videos, etc. out there about motivation. Have you not done any training on this?

I think, you can do that.
I am not a qualified teacher but try to be a lovely teacher and always smile. Also, you can let them participate in the classroom when you are teaching them.
