Does my diagram describe the sentence correctly?

The event happened ten years ago. It's now ten years later, but I still remember the event.

Do you mean something like:

It's been ten years now, but the memory still lingers on?

I am not honestly sure what your diagram shows.

Yes, I saw the sentence as "The memory was formed ten years ago; now it still lingers on".

However, GoesStation's explanation is more natural, I think. :)

You're right. It's not natural at all. The first part is okay. You could say:

The memory was formed ten years ago. It is still with me.

I have to get some coffee.
:)

Memory of the experience ten years ago lingers on to this day.

I wish you two would stop saying lingers on.. Memories don't linger. They either stay with you or they don't. That is, you either remember something or you don't.

But the example sentence does use linger on with memories.

The memory still lingers on works fine for me.

I've always found "linger on" unnatural too; it's verging on tautologous. For me "linger" means "to carry on" or "to continue". We wouldn't use "carry on on" or "continue on".

But many do use these forms, possibly for emphasis, like repeating again.

Interesting thought. I must admit I don't attach much emphasis to "on" in that context. Do people really say "repeating again" even when they're not saying something for the third time?
