Can one use 'the Polish invasion' if the intended meaning is 'the invasion of Poland'? Poland was invaded.
In other words, can one use #1 instead of #2?

1) The Polish invasion took place in 1939.
2) The invasion of Poland took place in 1939.

I think the Polish invasion is more likely to mean the Polish invading another country, as in the Polish invasion of Ukraine, rather than Poland being invaded.
