Can one use 'the Polish invasion' if the intended meaning is 'the invasion of Poland'? Poland was invaded.
In other words, can one use #1 instead of #2?

1) The Polish invasion took place in 1939.
2) The invasion of Poland took place in 1939.

I think the Polish invasion is more likely to mean the Polish invading another country, as in the Polish invasion of Ukraine, rather than Poland being invaded.

1. What did the Poles invade?
2. OK.
