Hello, teachers. What meaning does "service" have here, and if it's the same meaning in all three examples?

It means, in my opinion, that part of the reason for colonization was to spread the Christian religion.
 
But specifically "service" - does it mean "a religious ceremony"? It's confusing.
 
@Ostap See "in the service of Christianity" as "in the way of promoting Christianity".
 
So it doesn't have a specific religious meaning, but rather - "work or duties done for a person or an organization", right?
