Hello,

What is a verb which means to gently put your claws in someone's skin and then scratch their skin and leave a mark? And what is that red mark called.

Is it "grasp"?

Let me give you an example so you understand what context I am talking about.

He grasped her arms leaving a red mark, scratched her skin a bit and pulled her closer to kiss her.

You can use the verbs to scratch or to claw. The mark is a scratch.

Note that people don't have claws. They have fingernails.

The verb grasp means that you wrap your fingers firmly around something. It doesn't have a sense of scratching.

Does this work?

He grasped her arms, gently clawed her soft skin, leaving a scratch, then pulled her closer to kiss her.

Is there a way I can make it romantic? I feel like "claw" does not have a romantic connotation at all! I don't want to use touch!
If only there was a verb which meant to claw in a romantic way!:-D

I think claw sounds quite sexy, in fact.

Is that what you mean by 'romantic'?

If you like that sentence, I have no reason to believe it's not good!

Here's the lyric to the middle eight of one of my favourite songs, which is a very sexy/romantic song:

Ah, the moon's too bright
The chain's too tight
The beast won't go to sleep
I've been running through these promises to you
That I made and I could not keep
Ah, but a man never got a woman back
Not by begging on his knees
Or I'd crawl to you baby and I'd fall at your feet
And I'd howl at your beauty like a dog in heat
And I'd claw at your heart, and I'd tear at your sheet
I'd say please (please)
I'm your man

Leonard Cohen, I'm Your Man

Notice the animalistic simile of the words I've put in bold. The verb claw works very well because he's likening himself to a beast.

Thanks. I haven't listened to this song but Cohen is great! Since you are rather discriminating when it comes to language, I can only assume it is a superb song!
