Hi all,

i do not understand the usage of the word being to express the passive.

When i want to express, that a message will be displayed on the screen of a computer, google translate suggests me this:

The message is displayed.

Why not this:

The message is being displayed.

?

If you want to express that the message will be displayed, surely "The message will be displayed" is the way to express it.

Thanks,-that's what google says.

But why?

The dog is being beaten... ?
The dog is beaten... ?

As the dog is the (poor) object, i would use passive and from my understanding i then would have to write

The dog is being beaten.

If this is also wrong, please give me an example, where "being" is used.

Please note that (as bhaisahab pointed out in his reply), in English, the first person singular pronoun I is always capitalized (just like the third person, formal pronoun Sie in German)

We use progressive and non-progressive forms in the passive just as we do in the active:

That man is beating his dog. - The dog is being beaten.
He beats his dog every day. - The dog is beaten every day.

Fine, I think I understand now :

being is used, when I want to express that something happens at the moment... it is the progressive form.

So when I display an error message every time an error occurs, I would not use being.

Thank you.
