Verb "itch"

I have tried to use "itch" in my sentences. Would you please correct my mistakes?

1. A burly man started to tease David and swear at him, and David was itching to hit him in the face.
2. After weeks of absence from the team, the player was itching for the match.
3. When the holiday started, Peter was itching to go on a plane and travel to the seaside.

1. and 3. are fine.

2. doesn't feel right to me, but others may disagree. 'Itching for a match' or, 'itching for the match to get under way' sound more natural.

For #2, you could say:
After weeks away from (or out of) the team, the player was itching for a game.
After weeks away from (or out of) the team, he/she was itching to play.

But the use of itching in #2 is fine. ;-)
