What is "in the East" in sentence "The Sun rises in the East".

Is it an object or an adverb or an adverbial phrase or something else?

Also, please tell me if, in the above sentence the "an" needs to be placed before "object", "adverb" and "adverbial phrase" each time or we can write the sentence as :- Is it an object or adverb or adverbial phrase or something else?

Those additional "an"s can be omitted, but I think the passsge is much more natural if they are included.
