Hi.

I met a friend of mine tonight at the English club. I haven't seen him for a while. He organized hiking activities in my city and he went to many different places to go hiking. During our conversation, I asked him:

What was the last time you and your friends went hiking?

He replied "Last week".

Is my question natural?

I know "when" means "what time", if I say "When was the last time.....", doesn't it mean "What time was the last time...." and there will be two "times" in the question.

Could you please tell me what native speakers would ask in this siutation?

Only "When was the last time ...?" works. If you start a question with "What time ...", the response would include an actual time (ie seven o'clock).
