I'm trying to describe a musical performance. The performance is a woman with long hair. As she plays, strands of her hair move with her.

Does this sentence work?

She was at the piano playing with panache. Locks of Janet's hair moved with her head as she swayed to the crescendo.

I mean she swayed until the music reached a crescendo.

What can I use instead of "move"? I want something a bit more poetic. Her hair moves gently on her shoulder.

Maybe "dance" is the word. (Probably not.)

It's a bit wordy- Janet's hair shook as she swayed to the crescendo.

The piece she is playing is not that energetic. "Shook" conjures up images of a very energetic performance. A few locks of her hair gently move on her shoulders.

I like to know if I have alternatives for "move" and "dance".

Can I use "brush"?

A few locks of her hair gently brushed her shoulders.

There are lots of possibilities. Have you tried an online thesaurus?

Does brush work?

I can't find the specific verb for that in any dictionary.

I don't think so. Brush is something you do to your hair, not something your hair does.

What about stroke?

A few locks of her hair stroked her shoulders.

Is it too mushy? What other options do I have?

Hm. It could fall on her shoulders.
