Default diagraming

I understand diagraming sentences fairly well. I have a sentence I don't know how to handle. How should I diagram this one? "The highway is under construction." I know how to diagram predicate adjectives, but I don't really think this is a predicate adjective since it is a prepositional phrase. Here are more like it. "The soup is on the stove." "The book is on the top shelf." If you can tell me what to do, e-mail me at EMAIL REMOVED - Send PM to This User Instead. Thanks

I'm sorry for not answering before, but I only just saw the post. I'd diagram it as a prepositional phrase.

Hi, I have just recently joined the forum and noticed your post. Since I am certainly no grammarian, I can not answer your question definitively. However, I think that "under construction" (as you stated is a prepositional phrase) would be an adverbial prepositional phrase. Therefore, I would draw the diagram under the intransitive verb "is." Have a nice day.
