Can somebody shed some light on these phrases please? I have grown to like the phrase "many thanks" but have been wondering for some time about the grammatical correctness of it.

I would appreciate some guidance on this issue.

It's grammatically correct. What was worrying you?

It could be a direct translation, for example from German or a Scandinavian language. It could easily have arrived in England via American. The phrase could have been accepted into the English language because it is shorter than 'thank you very much'. It is also often heard used by news broadcasters, because it is easier to use to finalise an interview and move on to another topic.
