I'm really confused by the phrase But tell of day in goodness spent
please paraphrase it so that I can understand . |
Her complexion, her face, "tell", reveal that the lady has come from a time of elegance (goodness). Her past was spent, as a good person, this is revealed in her complexion.
In English, we might say "back in the day" which just means "in the past" sometime.
Also we spend time as well as money.
