Default How well do you think ... ?

Which sounds natural to a native English speaker:

1) How well do you think YOU WOULD manage in an amergency situation?
2) How well do you think WOULD YOU manage in an emergency situation?

Would you say that "would you (you would) manage in an emergency situation" is a noun clause here?

Thank you for any comments.

1) sounds better to a native speaker.

Sorry - can't comment on the grammar involved.

Example 2 is non-standard. Example 1 is grammatical.

even if I am french , I love grammar!

so I can tell you that example one is correct and the second one is not!

however in the streets people will be likely to say the second one !

1) How well do you think YOU WOULD manage in an emergency situation?

We have here two clauses.

How well do you think ---> Do you think? Modal Subject Verb, the other bit is an adverbial.

You would manage in an emergency situation. --> You would manage.

Clause one is a question, formed using the modal do.
Clause two is not a question but a statement.

To make a question out of it, turn you and would around. ( no, not uoy and dluow! (little joke))
Would you manage?

So the 2) above is wrong, because you already asked a question 'Do you think?' and promptly proceeded to ask another without a question mark or an answer to the first question. At the very best, that is messy writing.

Forgot to say:

If you then write,

Do you think would you mange? It is fairly clear that we have to do with two sentences here. Two lots of subject, two lots of modals, two lots of main verb.

The noun clause is separated in this question. The adverbial phrase "How well" modifies the verb "manage", not the main verb "think".

Option number 1 sounds good for any native speaker.
